Join UP IEEE

Welcome to UP IEEE!

Our goal as the IEEE University of Portland chapter is to provide students (as well as Alumns) with extra educational opportunities outside of the classroom. As "the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology", IEEE can serve as an incredibly useful resource for, not only Electrical Engineers and Computer Scientists but, anyone in the field of Engineering. Throughout the year we will be hosting "Homework Assistance" sessions for students to receive help on homework and projects as well as to build connections between older and younger students. Please view our schedule for a complete list of sessions.

UP IEEE will also be hosting guest speakers to talk about their experience in the industry and to give advice about how to stay on top of the advancements in technology and current standards. With industry connections being an important part of engineering we highly recommend joining UP IEEE for this reason alone.

As a student member of IEEE you will be able to compete for cash prizes in the frequent contests hosted by the organization. These competitions are designed as a way to gain experience working in groups on a specific task that closely simulates a real-world problem... but yeah, cash prizes are fun too. Because many of these contests are targeted towards EE and CS majors, UP IEEE will be hosting their own contests open to anyone! One of which will be an ultimate disk design competition where the only skill required is the ability to draw a picture, which many of us mastered by practicing with crayons on a wall when we were little. Oh, and of course a love for ultimate since the prize will likely be a disk with your winning design on it.
